October 20-21, 2019 - Plane Crash at Umstead State Park
RALEIGH - Search and rescue activities for a reported plane crash at Umstead State Park. City and county fire and EMS units were dispatched about 7:35 p.m. for Ebenezer Church Road and Graylyn Drive. Command post and staging areas established at that location, with search crews entering park in vehicles and later on foot. Units were on scene until about 3:00 a.m. Operations resumed after daybreak, with command and staging relocated to the park's visitor's center on Glenwood Avenue. Search teams resumed after 9:00 a.m. The aircraft was located about 10:04 a.m. There were no survivors. Fire personnel remained on scene for a number of hours, to assist investigators.
